A new survey from dating site Zoosk found that people are more romantic than you might think in this age of one-night stands and ghosting. Calling yourself a ‘romantic’ can increase your matches by 24% above the average match count.
And if you’re really into your love story, saying you’re a ‘hopeless romantic’ can increase your matches by even more – 38% Some other good words to use include ‘flowers’ (52% above the average) and ‘old-fashioned’ (16%). Out of 750,000 profiles and 200,000 messages, 82% of Zoosk users say they prefer ‘old-fashioned romance’ over ‘modern romance.’
So now that you’ve passed the online dating stage and found your match, how do you be romantic together? Three-quarters of those surveyed say ‘snuggling in front of the fireplace’ is the most romantic date, followed by ‘candlelight dinners’ (58%) and a ‘picnic in the park’ (45%). Nearly everyone (95%) think that ‘holding a door open’ on a date is romantic, 93% say ‘public displays of affection’ (PDA) brings the heat and 82% still think ‘paying for your date’ is romantic. Dang, they weren’t joking when they said old-fashioned.

Considering its nearly Valentine’s Day, what are the most romantic gifts? If you’re looking for gifts for her, the top three among the survey participants were event tickets (64%), flowers (54%) and a framed photo of the two of you (51%). The best gifts for him would flip the cute photo (54%) to first and put event tickets in second (51%). After that, it’s cologne all the way (21%).
