Sharon Choksi was sick of the limited options for girls clothing. The issue was not a lack of choices, but a lack of variety. The overabundance of pink, frills, and short-shorts for little girls would no longer cut it.
Inspired by her daughter and niece, who would not be caught dead in frilly, girly clothing, Choksi founded Girls Will Be, the clothing line that “empowers girls to be themselves.”
Choksi’s daughter and niece, Maya and Grace, were interested in “climbing trees, building LEGO creations, and playing with cars and trucks,” Choksi said. But their clothes were not representative of that, nor conducive. Choksi found that girls clothing was often 1 to 3 inches thinner than boys clothing, with shorter sleeves and much shorter shorts.
“Because girls love everything from dinosaurs and math to art and soccer. And they should never think something is only for boys. Because girls are more than pretty and sweet – like strong and smart and fierce. And they need clothes designed for active play and going on adventures. Because there is definitely more than one way to be a girl – and it doesn’t have to always involve pink and sparkles.”
We know what you’re thinking. ‘But boys are bigger than girls, so that explains why boys clothes has more coverage.’ however, before puberty, this is not actually true. According to kidshealth.org, girls are usually taller than boys as they typically start growing between the ages of 8 and 13, while boys begin from 9 to 14.
Children are the future, and most people would agree that it’s good to encourage their passions, enrich them with alternate ideas, and encourage them to think outside the box at an early age.
